Allen and the Bucks limp out of this series battered. |
I refuse to use the sure-to-be ubiquitous headlines on newspapers this morning: "The Bucks Stop Here"
Okay, so neither of my picks for the NBA finals were on target. Shucks. I'm usually pretty good at this kind of thing, or maybe I should stop kidding myself. =P By the way, I wouldn't count on a Laker sweep, although I do concur that a back-to-back championship seems inevitable. Iverson and the Sixers have fought adversity all the way, and reminds me of Houston's Clutch City performance in '95 when they started off ranked in the gutters, but went all the way to defend their title.
I also emerged from this series a big Ray Allen fan. I always knew he could play (Dream Team'er), but the guy's got intensity and competitive fire burning in him that I admire in an athlete. He might've gone a bit overboard with the whole conspiracy theory brouhaha, but I suspect the media's got a lot to do with fanning that flame. Of course, I can't say all this without tipping my hat to the other Allen... Iverson, that is. If his game 7 performance, bouncing back from a horrendous series, isn't an indicator of his deservance of MVP, then I don't know what is.
Anyways, finally finished my Shrek review, so there's some leisure reading for you guys in your spare time.
"... Scratch open all the silliness, however, and you'll find a nice, heartwarming story about an outcast who learns the importance of friendship, romance, and not judging a book by its cover ..."
There Go The Spurs

So much for my pick of San Antonio over Milwaukee in the Finals...

Demoralized... |
Now that I have THAT monkey off my back, I can root for the Lakers now. =) Barring any destructive injury to either Kobe or Shaq, it looks like these Lakers could be the best playoff team in NBA history. Rick Fox said he wouldn't cut his hair until his team loses. If L.A. does indeed go 15-0 in the playoffs, I wonder what he's going to look like at the beginning of next season. =P

Song of the Week

That tasted good
That's cinnamon
That's Hollywood
Come on, come on
No one can see you try ..."

Notice a pattern with the updates lately? Movie review, SotW, movie review, SotW.... Well, it looks like I'm right on schedule. Yeah, things have been slow. =P
Summer is sooo close now. I've applied to a couple of jobs, but it's still far from decided whether or not I'll get them. Or if I'm even fully qualified. Man, finding work is easier said then done. There's all this talk about how computer jobs are abundant and so easy to get, but in the end it still boils down to personal motivation and ambition. I think that's where I lack confidence. Skill wise, I'm hanging with the curve, maybe even a little ahead. That's all theoretically speaking, of course. Damn... growing up sure has been a rude awakening for me.
Enjoy the SotW, folks.
A Knight's Tale

"... Go with some friends, buy a big bucket of popcorn, then sit back and enjoy a good laugh here and there as well as some rocking jousting action and fine medieval babes..."
That's all for now, fella's. Feeling a bit apathetic towards life in general lately. See you guys in a bit. Cheers.
Song of the Week

We'll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can't control my brain..."

Yay! Weezer's back! It's been a long time coming, but May 15th is D-Day for their new album, 5 years in the making. This Song of the Week is my attempt in promoting them. Okay, so Rice World's not exactly a commercial slot during the Super Bowl... but it's the thought that counts. I considered putting Blink's new single from their upcoming album Take Off Your Pants & Jacket, but The Rock Show has ravaged the radio airwaves so much that it's bordering on being killed. Good song, though. Harkens back to their Dude Ranch days.
Other news...
Allen torches the Raptors for 54 in Game 2, and what does Vince do the next game? Drop 50 on the Sixers, including a playoff record 8 three pointers in the first half, giving Toronto a 2-1 series edge. These guys are machines. I love this game!

Get off of my nuts! |
This school quarter's been pretty much hell for me. Not academically, but lifestyle wise; I'm a mess. For the past month or so, I've established a nocturnal cycle, and consequently, have been missing most of my morning classes. You know it's getting bad when you can dole out your TV-watching schedule from dusk 'till dawn. I made progress last night, though. Slept at 10:30 p.m., and woke at 5:30 in the morning. Not quite normal yet, but getting there.
Tomorrow's Mother's Day, and I'd just like
to take a little time here to salute moms of all variety's all around the globe. It's easy
to become a mother, but to be a good one is the hardest job on Earth. Where else can one
find unconditional love? Hi Mom! This Bud's for you (so to speak). Happy Mother's Day.
The Mummy Returns

Yeah, I know, new articles have been flowing through Rice World as fast as Elvis making a comeback. The Mummy Returns is the first movie I've watched since Enemy At The Gates. I've been meaning to catch Pokemon 3 every weekend, but something always seems to come up. Dammit. At least the summer blockbusters are arriving. That means movie reviews up the crack, soon. Gerry, where are you??
By the way, this is my first, and likely last, article and update published under X11/Linux, using the Bluefish HTML editor. It's like Notepad, but they color the tags. Man, what a chore it is to do mundane updates without a WYSIWYG program like FrontPage. They make HTML so easy, it's like cheating.
Speaking of which, the Windows 2000 crash ticker to your left is somewhat on hiatus, since Linux has become my primary workstation OS. I've halted the kernel numerous times, despite its reputation for stability, all due to my attempts in trying to get my TV card working. If you don't count those, then I've crashed a grand total of zero times. There has been a couple of times in which I've experienced some instability, forcing me to soft-reboot, which I'll chalk up to beta applications. Almost every program in Linux is in constant beta, because of its open source nature.
Enough geek talk. Going to try to sleep early tonight at, uh... 3:45 in the morning. Cheers.
