L.A. AUTO SHOW 2001 COVERAGE

My recently discovered interest in cars propelled me in my decision to attend the 2001 Greater L.A. Auto Show a few weeks ago. Armed with my free Earthlink provided digital camera courtesy of Kansur.com (plug, plug...), I forked over 8 bucks for an entrance ticket and snapped digital photos until I maxed out its puny 2 megabyte internal memory. Unfortunately, due to the crappy quality of the camera itself, I was only able to salvage 24 out of 35 of those shots.

I went with a couple of friends. We first toured the biggest arena, where all the GM's were clustered. Acura, BMW, Lexus, Toyota, Suzuki, and some other companies were there as well. Then we headed off to the Ferrari / Panoz hall. For some reason, Kia was clumped there too, and they looked really out of place with those hundred grand exotic European sports cars. After that, it was the Porsche showroom, and finally, the other big arena that hosted Honda, Mercedez Benz, Jaguar, and Ford.

Here, below, are the thumbnails for the aforementioned 24 pictures. Click to enlarge.

Some weird concept car.
I think this was a test
shot for the camera.
Acura's new Integra RSX.
I was under whelmed.
The back of the new
Integra.

BMW's sexy new M3. I
wanted to sit in it, but
the line was too long.
Here's a back shot. Quad
exhaust pipes!
BMW's throwback model
Z8. This baby's got a ton
of horsepower: 394

The tail end of a Ferrari
360 Modena. Bad shot,
I know.
The entire section was
sealed off by Ferrari.
Damn paranoid Italians.
A closeup side view of the
new Modena Spyder.

I first learned of Panoz
from Microsoft's Midtown
Madness video game.
Porsche had its own
entire showroom. The
atmosphere was phat.
A fixed up 911 Carrera.
As if they need any more
fixing up...
